Epanodos
Epanodos (from Greek ἐπάνοδος, "return, repetition") is a rhetorical device wherein words or phrases are repeated in reverse order. It is a type of chiasmus, but specifically emphasizes the repetition of the initial elements. The effect is often to create a balanced, reflective, or emphatic statement. In essence, the latter half of the statement mirrors the first half but in a transposed sequence. The device can be used to clarify, summarize, or highlight key themes or concepts. The impact of epanodos relies on the audience's recognition of the mirrored structure, which draws attention to the relationship between the ideas being presented. While closely related to chiasmus, epanodos specifically involves the repetition of whole phrases or words, rather than simply mirroring grammatical structures.
