Eoneustes

Eoneustes is an extinct genus of metriorhynchid crocodyliform from the Middle Jurassic period (Callovian stage). Fossils of Eoneustes have been found in Europe, specifically in England and France. Metriorhynchids were a group of marine crocodyliforms that were highly adapted to aquatic life, possessing features such as a streamlined body, a tail fluke for propulsion, and reduced limbs modified into paddles.

Eoneustes is characterized by several features distinguishing it from other metriorhynchids. These include specific details of the skull morphology, dentition, and the shape of certain bones in the postcranial skeleton. It is considered to be one of the more basal members of the Metriorhynchidae family, providing insights into the early evolution of this group of marine reptiles.

The exact classification of Eoneustes within the Metriorhynchidae has been debated, and further phylogenetic analysis may be required to fully resolve its position. Its discovery has contributed significantly to the understanding of the diversification of marine crocodyliforms during the Jurassic period.
