Easterhouse (band)

Easterhouse was a British rock band formed in St. Helens, Merseyside, England, in 1983. The band was named after the Easterhouse area of Glasgow, Scotland.

Known for their intense, politically charged lyrics and driving, angular post-punk sound, Easterhouse was fronted by singer and songwriter Ivor Perry, who also played guitar. The band's lineup also included his brother, guitarist Gary Perry, plus Peter Lloyd on bass and Andy Perry on drums.

Easterhouse drew inspiration from bands like The Fall, Gang of Four, and Joy Division, and their music often addressed themes of social injustice, working-class struggles, and the impact of Thatcherite policies on British society.

The band released two studio albums: Waiting for the Red Bird (1986) and Out of Our Minds (1988), both on Rough Trade Records. They garnered critical acclaim and a dedicated following, particularly in the UK independent music scene, but did not achieve mainstream commercial success.

Easterhouse toured extensively in the UK and Europe, supporting bands such as The Smiths and The Mission. They disbanded in 1989. After the band's breakup, Ivor Perry went on to work on various musical projects, including solo work.
