Elantxobe

Elantxobe is a small coastal village and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the Basque Country of northern Spain. It is situated on the steep slopes of Mount Ogoño, offering dramatic views of the Bay of Biscay.

The village is known for its unique and precarious layout, with houses built almost on top of each other and a distinctive harbor located at the bottom of the slope. The main road through Elantxobe descends sharply to the harbor, and a rotating platform has been installed to allow buses to turn around due to the limited space.

Historically, Elantxobe's economy has been heavily reliant on fishing, particularly for tuna and anchovies. Tourism has also become an important source of income in recent years, drawn by the village's picturesque setting and traditional character. The annual "Karmengo Jaiak" (Festivities of Carmen) are a significant cultural event.

Elantxobe is administratively part of the Busturialdea region and maintains strong Basque cultural traditions. The Basque language (Euskara) is widely spoken in the village.
