Edward J. Brown (academic)

Edward J. Brown (born 1936, died 2006) was an American scholar and literary critic specializing in Russian literature. He was particularly renowned for his work on the Russian Silver Age, specifically the Symbolist movement, and for his study of Russian émigré literature.

Brown received his Ph.D. from Columbia University. He taught at Brown University for many years, where he held the post of Professor of Slavic Languages and Literatures. He was known for his engaging teaching style and his ability to bring Russian literature to life for his students.
