Dry Cell (band)

Dry Cell was an American nu metal band from Murrieta, California, formed in 2000. The band is known for their brief but impactful presence in the early 2000s nu metal scene.

Dry Cell initially consisted of Jeff Gutt (vocals), Judd Gruenbaum (guitar), Ryan Hunter (bass), and Brandon Brown (drums). Their sound was characterized by heavy, distorted guitar riffs, aggressive vocals, and a blend of melodic and aggressive elements, typical of the nu metal genre.

The band gained significant attention after signing with Warner Bros. Records in 2002. Their debut album, Disconnected, was slated for release, and they contributed the song "Body Crumbles" to The Scorpion King soundtrack in 2002, which significantly increased their exposure.

However, despite the initial promise and positive reception of their music, Disconnected was never officially released. Internal conflicts within the band and disagreements with the record label led to Dry Cell disbanding in 2004 before the album could see the light of day.

After the breakup, the members pursued other musical projects. Jeff Gutt later gained prominence as a contestant on the American version of The X Factor and ultimately became the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots in 2017.

Although Dry Cell's active period was relatively short, their music remains a notable example of early 2000s nu metal. Bootleg versions of Disconnected tracks circulate online, keeping their legacy alive among fans of the genre.
