Drugfire
Drugfire was an FBI program developed in the 1990s for forensic firearms identification, specifically designed to link firearms evidence from different crime scenes. It primarily focused on cartridge cases. Drugfire digitized images of cartridge cases recovered from crime scenes and allowed examiners to compare these images electronically. This significantly sped up the process of linking seemingly unrelated crimes based on matching firearm evidence. Drugfire was eventually merged with the ATF's Integrated Ballistic Identification System (IBIS) to form the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN). This consolidation created a single, national database for ballistic images, providing a more comprehensive resource for law enforcement.
