Medaeus

Medaeus is a lunar impact crater that lies on the rugged far side of the Moon. It is located to the northeast of the large crater Al-Khwarizmi, and southeast of the crater Sarton.

The rim of Medaeus is somewhat eroded, with a number of small craters lying along the edge. The most prominent of these is a small craterlet along the southern rim. The inner walls are irregular and slope down to a relatively level interior floor. There is a low central rise at the midpoint of the crater floor.

The crater is named after the ancient Greek grammarian Medaeus of Pellene (c. 350 BCE).

Due to its location on the far side of the Moon, Medaeus cannot be observed directly from Earth. Observations are possible via orbiting spacecraft.
