Doug Chin

Doug Chin (born March 21, 1966) is an American politician and attorney from the state of Hawaii. He served as the 13th Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii from 2018 to 2019, having been appointed by Governor David Ige following the resignation of Shan Tsutsui. Prior to his appointment as Lieutenant Governor, Chin served as the 13th Attorney General of Hawaii from 2015 to 2018, also appointed by Governor Ige. He is a member of the Democratic Party.

Chin received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Hawaii School of Law. Before becoming Attorney General, Chin worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney in Honolulu and in private practice. He has also served as a member of the Hawaii State Legislature, representing the 11th District in the House of Representatives.

During his time as Attorney General, Chin gained national attention for leading the state of Hawaii's legal challenge to President Donald Trump's Executive Order 13769, often referred to as the "travel ban." He argued that the ban was discriminatory and unconstitutional, and ultimately secured a nationwide temporary restraining order against parts of the ban.
