Dollond (crater)

Dollond is a lunar impact crater located in the central highlands of the Moon. It lies just to the southwest of the crater Abulfeda and to the east of Hipparchus.

Dollond is a relatively unremarkable, somewhat eroded crater. The rim is worn and irregular, with several small craters along its edge. The interior floor is relatively flat, with a few minor craters and some low ridges. No central peak is present. The crater is approximately 11 kilometers in diameter.

The crater is named after the British optician John Dollond (1706-1761), known for his improvements to the achromatic lens used in telescopes. It was officially named by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
