Doktor Martin (German TV series)

Doktor Martin is a German television drama series, a remake of the British television series Doc Martin. The series centers on Dr. Martin Gruber, a brilliant surgeon from Berlin who develops a blood phobia and is forced to abandon his surgical career. He relocates to the fictional village of Sonnenfels in the Austrian Alps, where he takes over the practice of the local general practitioner.

Unlike the original British series, Doktor Martin relocates the setting from coastal Cornwall to a mountainous Austrian landscape. The series retains the core concept of a highly skilled but socially inept doctor struggling to adapt to a rural community and deal with the everyday ailments and eccentricities of its inhabitants.

Dr. Gruber's brusque manner, lack of social skills, and often unconventional medical approaches frequently clash with the traditional values and customs of the villagers. He also faces ongoing challenges in forming personal relationships, particularly with local schoolteacher Andrea Junginger (initially played by Julia Bremermann, later by Simone Hanselmann), which provides a significant romantic element to the series.

The series ran for several seasons and proved popular with German-speaking audiences. It is known for its picturesque Alpine scenery, character-driven storylines, and a blend of medical drama, comedy, and romance.
