Dicle Dam

The Dicle Dam (also known as the Tigris Dam) is a concrete-faced rock-fill dam on the Tigris River near the town of Dicle in Diyarbakır Province, southeastern Turkey. Its primary purpose is water storage for irrigation, and it also generates hydroelectric power. The dam was constructed as part of the Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP). The dam has a reservoir capacity of 594 million cubic meters and supports a 110 MW hydroelectric power plant. Construction began in 1986 and was completed in 1997. Operation of the dam has been a source of controversy due to its potential impact on water flow to downstream countries, particularly Iraq.
