David Stern (conductor)

David Stern (born August 30, 1963, in New York City) is an American conductor, known for his work in both operatic and symphonic repertoire. He is particularly associated with French opera and has held significant positions with opera houses and orchestras across Europe and North America.

Stern is the son of violinist Isaac Stern. He studied at Harvard University and the Juilliard School, where he focused on conducting.

He has served as the Music Director of the Opéra de Saint-Étienne (France) and the Israel Opera. Stern has also been a frequent guest conductor with major orchestras and opera houses globally, including the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna State Opera, and the Metropolitan Opera.
