David Black (minister)

David Black (born c. 1760, died April 13, 1806) was a Presbyterian minister in the early United States. He served as pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Alexandria, Virginia (now known as Old Presbyterian Meeting House) from 1787 until his death. He was a prominent figure in the Presbyterian Synod of Virginia and actively involved in missionary work among Native American tribes in the Ohio River Valley. Black was known for his eloquent preaching and his commitment to education and social reform. He played a role in the establishment of several schools in the Alexandria area. His theological views were generally aligned with the conservative wing of the Presbyterian Church during a period of significant doctrinal debate. He is buried in the cemetery of the Old Presbyterian Meeting House.
