David Arnot (Canadian politician)
David Arnot is a Canadian politician and lawyer from Saskatchewan. He is best known for his work as the Chief Commissioner of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission from 2009 to 2021.
Arnot has a long history of involvement in public service and human rights advocacy. Before becoming Chief Commissioner, he worked as a lawyer specializing in Indigenous law and human rights. He represented First Nations and Métis communities in negotiations with the government and in court. He also served as a Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan.
As Chief Commissioner, Arnot was responsible for overseeing the administration and enforcement of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Code. He worked to promote equality and prevent discrimination on the grounds of race, religion, gender, disability, and other protected characteristics. During his tenure, the Commission addressed issues such as systemic discrimination, accessibility, and Indigenous rights. He publicly spoke out on issues of social justice and equity.
Arnot has been involved in various community initiatives and organizations throughout his career. He is a recipient of the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal for his contributions to the province.
