Dave Lloyd (cyclist)
Dave Lloyd (born 6 October 1949 in Liverpool) is a former British professional cyclist. He was one of Britain's leading road racers in the 1970s and early 1980s, known for his aggressive riding style, exceptional time-trialing ability, and charisma.
Lloyd turned professional in 1973 and quickly made a name for himself. He won the British National Road Race Championships in 1974 and 1978. He also achieved significant success in stage races, including winning the Milk Race (Tour of Britain) in 1975 and 1976. His victories were often marked by dominant performances, showcasing his strength and tactical acumen.
Beyond domestic racing, Lloyd competed extensively on the European continent. He participated in the Giro d'Italia twice, showcasing his capabilities against some of the world's best cyclists. While stage wins eluded him in the Grand Tours, his consistent performances highlighted his talent and determination.
After retiring from professional cycling, Lloyd remained involved in the sport as a coach and mentor.
