Daniel Mears (politician)

Daniel Mears (born c. 1836, died 1907) was an American politician and businessman who served as the 10th Lieutenant Governor of Michigan from 1893 to 1897 under Governor John Tyler Rich. A member of the Republican Party, he was a prominent figure in the lumber industry in western Michigan.

Mears was born in North Wrentham, Massachusetts. He moved to Michigan in his early twenties and established himself in the lumber business in Pentwater, Michigan. He held various local offices before entering state politics.

In addition to his role as Lieutenant Governor, Mears served in the Michigan State Senate, representing the 25th district. He was known for his advocacy for the lumber industry and his commitment to fiscal conservatism. He played a role in shaping legislation related to natural resource management and economic development.

After his term as Lieutenant Governor, Mears continued to be involved in business and civic affairs. He remained a resident of Pentwater until his death in 1907.
