Dan Johnson (Kansas politician)
Dan Johnson (1960 – December 13, 2017) was an American politician from Kansas. He served as a Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives for the 118th district, which included portions of Johnson and Wyandotte counties, from January 2017 until his death.
Johnson's election in 2016 was considered a surprising upset victory against a long-time incumbent Democrat. His tenure in the Kansas House was marked by controversy. He was accused of making racist and anti-Muslim statements on social media, including a since-deleted Facebook post comparing Barack and Michelle Obama to monkeys. He also referred to Islam as a cult.
In December 2017, Johnson was accused of sexually abusing a minor in 2003 in a report published by The Kansas City Star. He denied the allegations, calling them "absolutely false." The following day, Johnson died by suicide. He was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
