Dan Burt

Dan Burt (born October 2, 1948) is an American lawyer and author known primarily for his involvement in corporate litigation and his book Corporate Profits and Bribery.

Burt graduated from Dartmouth College and Yale Law School. He began his legal career at Arnold & Porter, later founding his own law firm. His practice has focused on complex commercial litigation and arbitration.

Corporate Profits and Bribery, published in 1983, examines the ethical and legal issues surrounding bribery in international business transactions. The book gained attention for its critical perspective on the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). Burt argued that the FCPA, while intended to curb bribery, put American companies at a disadvantage compared to their foreign competitors, who were not subject to similar restrictions. He proposed alternative approaches to address corruption that he believed would be more effective and less detrimental to American business interests.

Burt has been a frequent commentator on legal and business issues. He has written and spoken extensively on topics related to corporate governance, international law, and ethics in business.
