Czelin
Czelin is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Cedynia, within Gryfino County, West Pomeranian Voivodeship, in north-western Poland. It lies approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) west of Cedynia, 50 km (31 mi) south-west of Gryfino, and 71 km (44 mi) south-west of the regional capital Szczecin. As of 2021, the village has a population of approximately 600 inhabitants.
Historically, the area has been part of both Poland and Germany, reflecting shifting geopolitical boundaries. The area around Czelin experienced significant upheaval during and after World War II. Following the war, Czelin, along with much of the surrounding region, became part of Poland under border changes promulgated at the Potsdam Conference. The pre-war German population was largely expelled and replaced with Polish settlers.
Today, Czelin is primarily an agricultural village with a small, local economy. Its proximity to Cedynia and other larger towns provides access to services and employment opportunities. The landscape is characterized by rolling hills and farmland, common to the West Pomeranian region. The village is also near the Oder River.
