Cycles (The Doobie Brothers album)
Cycles is the tenth studio album by American rock band The Doobie Brothers, released in 1989. This album marked a reunion for the band, featuring a lineup that included Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons, and John McFee, all of whom were members during the band's most successful period in the 1970s. It was their first studio album in nine years, following 1980's One Step Closer.
Cycles saw the band returning to a more rock-oriented sound, reminiscent of their earlier work, after experimenting with a smoother, more R&B-influenced style in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The album produced the hit single "The Doctor," which reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Other notable tracks include a cover of The Four Tops' "It Keeps You Runnin'" and "Need a Little Taste of Love."
The album was produced by Russ Titelman, who had previously worked with the band on their earlier albums. Cycles was generally well-received by critics and fans alike, and it helped to re-establish The Doobie Brothers in the music scene. The album was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The success of Cycles led to further touring and subsequent albums by the reunited Doobie Brothers.
