Cwmcarvan
Cwmcarvan is a small village and community in Monmouthshire, South Wales. It is located approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) north of Monmouth, and 4 miles (6.4 km) south of Raglan.
The name "Cwmcarvan" is Welsh, and roughly translates to "valley of Carfan". The origin of "Carfan" is somewhat uncertain, but it is generally accepted to be a personal name. "Cwm" in Welsh denotes a valley, often a steep-sided or glacial valley.
The village itself is relatively small and rural, primarily agricultural in nature. Historical records suggest a long history of settlement in the area, with evidence of Roman presence and later Norman influence. The community includes a parish church dedicated to St. Carvan, from which the village derives its name. The surrounding countryside is characterized by rolling hills and farmland.
Cwmcarvan is part of the larger Monmouthshire County Council area and is within the electoral ward of Raglan. The village offers limited amenities, relying on nearby towns for services and commerce.
