Crockett Cup (1986)

The Crockett Cup was a professional wrestling tag team tournament held on April 19, 1986, at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was promoted by Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP), a member of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). The tournament was dedicated to the memory of JCP promoter Jim Crockett Sr., who had passed away in 1973.

The Crockett Cup was a single-elimination tournament featuring 24 tag teams, including teams from various NWA territories, as well as teams from international promotions. The winning team received a large trophy and a substantial cash prize.

The tournament field included established NWA stars such as The Road Warriors, Dusty Rhodes & Magnum T.A., The Rock 'n' Roll Express, and The Midnight Express, as well as international teams from Japan and other regions.

The tournament was won by The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal), who defeated Dusty Rhodes and Magnum T.A. in the finals. The event was a significant success for JCP, drawing a large crowd and generating substantial revenue. The Crockett Cup became a recurring event for JCP, although subsequent tournaments were held with different formats and levels of prestige. The 1986 Crockett Cup is generally considered the most prestigious and memorable edition of the tournament.
