Circle X (EP)
Circle X (EP) is a 2018 extended play (EP) by the American experimental rock band Swans. It represents a transitional release between the band's final album of its initial reunion era, The Glowing Man (2016), and the subsequent restructuring of the band and its sound.
Musically, Circle X (EP) continues the band's exploration of long-form compositions and cyclical rhythms. However, it also incorporates elements that foreshadow the more atmospheric and folk-influenced direction Swans would take on later albums. The EP is characterized by its dense textures, hypnotic repetition, and Michael Gira's characteristic vocal delivery.
The EP consists of studio recordings and documents works developed during the touring cycle supporting The Glowing Man. It serves as a bridge between the heavier, more intense sound of the mid-reunion era and the more subdued, introspective atmosphere of later works. It demonstrates the band's continued evolution and experimentation with its sound.
