Chris Bailey (artist)

Chris Bailey (1950 – 2022) was an Irish-Australian musician, singer, and songwriter, best known as the lead vocalist and songwriter of the punk rock band The Saints. Formed in Brisbane, Australia, in 1973, The Saints were one of the first punk bands, pre-dating the Sex Pistols' emergence onto the UK scene.

Bailey's distinctive vocal style, often described as gruff and powerful, and his songwriting, characterized by its raw energy and intelligent lyrics, were crucial to The Saints' sound and success. He was the only constant member throughout the band's various incarnations.

The Saints are recognized for their influential single "(I'm) Stranded" (1976), a landmark in punk rock history. The band released several albums over the years, exploring different musical directions while retaining Bailey's distinctive vocal and lyrical style. Notable albums include Eternally Yours (1978) and Prehistoric Sounds (1978).

Beyond The Saints, Bailey also pursued a solo career, releasing several albums showcasing his songwriting and musical versatility.
