Chinese destroyer Nanjing (131)
The Nanjing (131) is a Type 051 destroyer (NATO reporting name: Luda-class) of the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). She was commissioned in 1977 and decommissioned in 2012. As a Type 051, Nanjing was one of the first large surface combatants designed and built in China.
The Type 051 destroyers were primarily designed for anti-ship warfare and air defense. Nanjing was armed with anti-ship missiles, anti-aircraft guns, and torpedoes. She also carried a helicopter platform, though initially lacked a hangar.
During her service life, Nanjing participated in numerous exercises and patrols, representing a significant step in the PLAN's modernization efforts. Although considered outdated by modern naval standards, she played an important role in developing China's shipbuilding capabilities and operational experience.
Following her decommissioning, Nanjing was reportedly preserved as a museum ship, contributing to naval education and public awareness of China's maritime history.
