Champ de Mars station (Paris Métro)
Champ de Mars station is an abandoned station on line 8 of the Paris Métro. It is located in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, near the Champ de Mars park, from which it derives its name.
The station originally opened on July 13, 1913, as part of the inaugural section of line 8. It was situated between the La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle and École Militaire stations.
Champ de Mars station closed on September 2, 1939, at the outbreak of World War II, along with several other stations deemed non-essential. However, unlike many others that were subsequently reopened, Champ de Mars station remained permanently closed. The proximity of the École Militaire and La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle stations, which provided sufficient service to the area, likely contributed to the decision not to reopen it.
Today, the station's platforms are still visible from passing trains, although they are not accessible to the public. It serves as a reminder of the early days of the Paris Métro and the disruptions caused by World War II.
