Cecidoses
Cecidoses refers to plant galls induced by insects or mites of the family Cecidomyiidae (gall midges). These galls are abnormal plant growths that result from the feeding activity and chemical secretions of the gall midges. The shape, size, color, and texture of the cecidosis are highly variable and are often specific to the gall midge species and the host plant. Cecidoses can occur on various plant parts, including leaves, stems, buds, flowers, and roots. The galls provide shelter and nutrients for the developing gall midge larvae. While some cecidoses may cause minimal damage to the host plant, others can significantly impact plant growth and reproduction.
