Brodtkorb
The term "Brodtkorb" refers to a specific type of Norwegian cake pan, characterized by its distinctive fluted or ridged pattern and generally circular shape. These pans are traditionally made of cast iron or aluminum and are used to bake a variety of cakes, most notably the Sandkake (Sandcake). The name "Brodtkorb" is believed to derive from the German word "Brotkorb," meaning bread basket, although the function and appearance are different. The pan's ridges are intended to create a visually appealing finished product and to increase the surface area for browning. While variations exist, the classic Brodtkorb is easily recognizable by its repeating, often symmetrical, pattern. The usage of a Brodtkorb is still common in Norway and among Norwegian expatriate communities, especially during holiday baking seasons.
