Bowyangs

Bowyangs are lengths of cord, string, or similar material used to secure trousers or breeches just below the knee. Historically, they were a common feature of men's attire, particularly during periods when breeches were the dominant lower garment. Bowyangs served a practical purpose by preventing the trousers from riding up the leg and exposing the calf, and they could also be used to adjust the fit around the calf for a more tailored appearance.

Bowyangs could be simple pieces of twine or rope, or they could be more elaborate, made from leather or woven fabric and featuring decorative elements. The style and material of bowyangs often reflected the wearer's social class and the intended occasion.
