Boogeyman (film)
Boogeyman is a 2005 American supernatural horror film directed by Stephen Kay and starring Barry Watson, Emily Deschanel, and Skye McCole Bartusiak. The film revolves around Tim Jensen, a young man who is traumatized by the childhood memory of witnessing his father's death at the hands of the Boogeyman.
Years later, Tim returns to his childhood home after his mother's death, determined to confront his fears and uncover the truth about the Boogeyman. He believes the Boogeyman is a real entity that lives in closets and preys on children.
As Tim investigates, he encounters strange occurrences and unsettling clues that suggest the Boogeyman is indeed real. He teams up with a childhood friend, Jessica, and a young girl named Franny, who also claims to have seen the Boogeyman. Together, they attempt to unravel the mystery behind the creature and find a way to stop it.
The film explores themes of childhood trauma, fear, and the power of belief. It presents the Boogeyman not just as a monster, but as a manifestation of repressed fears and psychological wounds.
Boogeyman received generally negative reviews upon its release, with critics criticizing its plot, scares, and reliance on horror movie clichés. However, it was a commercial success, grossing over $67 million worldwide against a budget of $19 million.
The film spawned two sequels, Boogeyman 2 (2007) and Boogeyman 3 (2008), neither of which featured the original cast or crew. These sequels were direct-to-video releases and were also met with negative reviews.
