Bob Jones (ice hockey)

Bob Jones (born February 9, 1956) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) and World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1977 to 1983.

Career

A defenseman, Jones was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the 1976 NHL Amateur Draft and the Indianapolis Racers of the WHA in the 1976 WHA Amateur Draft. He opted to sign with the Racers, playing there for one season before the team folded. He then played for the Cincinnati Stingers in the WHA before that league merged with the NHL.

Following the WHA-NHL merger, the Winnipeg Jets acquired Jones. He spent two seasons with the Jets before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers. He played for the Oilers during their early dynasty years, although his role was that of a depth defenseman.

After his NHL career, Jones played several seasons in Europe. He played in Switzerland for HC Davos and later in Austria.
