Berkeley Square (1959 film)

Berkeley Square is a 1959 British drama film directed by Thomas Bentley and starring Tyrone Power, Maureen O'Hara, and Michael Redgrave. It is a remake of the 1933 film of the same name, which was itself based on the play Berkeley Square by John L. Balderston, adapted from Henry James' unfinished novel The Sense of the Past.

The film tells the story of Peter Standish, an American expatriate living in London in the 20th century, who inexplicably travels back in time to 1784 and inhabits the body of his ancestor, also named Peter Standish. He struggles to adjust to the social customs and values of the 18th century, while also falling in love with his distant relative, Helen Pettigrew. The film explores themes of time travel, cultural clash, the nature of love, and the differences between the modern and historical eras. Despite the initial promise of the premise, the 1959 version is generally regarded as inferior to the 1933 film adaptation, and is less widely known.
