Balmont (horse)

Balmont was a British Thoroughbred racehorse. Bred in 1960, he was a bay colt sired by Charlottesville out of the mare Snow Queen. He was owned by Sir Michael Sobell and trained by Walter Nightingall.

Balmont achieved notable success in his racing career, most significantly winning the St. Leger Stakes in 1962, ridden by Doug Smith. This Classic victory cemented his place in racing history. Beyond the St. Leger, details of his other racing performances are less readily available but he was considered a capable stayer.

After his racing career, Balmont was retired to stud. His stud record and influence as a sire are not widely documented and he did not achieve significant success in that role.

The St. Leger win remains the defining moment of Balmont's career.
