BRP Rizal

The BRP Rizal (PS-74) was a Jacinto-class patrol vessel of the Philippine Navy. One of three ships of her class, she was named after José Rizal, a Filipino nationalist and polymath considered the national hero of the Philippines.

BRP Rizal and her sister ships were formerly Peacock-class patrol vessels of the British Royal Navy, constructed by Hall, Russell & Company in Aberdeen, Scotland. They were designed for duties in Hong Kong. After Hong Kong was handed over to China in 1997, the ships were sold to the Philippines.

The BRP Rizal's primary mission was maritime patrol and enforcement of Philippine laws within the country's exclusive economic zone. She also participated in search and rescue operations and humanitarian assistance during natural disasters. The vessel was armed with a 76mm Oto Melara naval gun forward and smaller caliber machine guns for self-defense. She has been retired from active service.
