Axel Holmström (ice hockey)

Axel Holmström (born February 29, 1996) is a Swedish professional ice hockey player. Holmström is a centre who most recently played for Nybro Vikings IF in HockeyAllsvenskan.

Holmström was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the seventh round (196th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Prior to being drafted, Holmström played in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with Skellefteå AIK. He helped Skellefteå AIK win the Swedish Championship in 2013 and 2014.

After his draft, Holmström continued to play in Sweden. He later signed an entry-level contract with the Detroit Red Wings in 2017. He spent the majority of his time in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings' affiliate. He did not play any NHL games for the Red Wings.

Following his time in North America, Holmström returned to Sweden and has played in various leagues, including HockeyAllsvenskan.
