Asterix (1992 video game)

Asterix is a side-scrolling platform game released in 1992 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Developed by Infogrames and published by Albert Frère Group, it is based on the popular French comic book series Asterix.

The game follows Asterix, and optionally Obelix (in two-player mode), as they journey across Europe to rescue Getafix the druid, who has been kidnapped by the Romans. Players control Asterix, who can punch enemies, collect helmets to increase his health, and find items such as roast boars for additional health. Obelix, if present, is controlled by a second player and provides additional strength.

The gameplay consists of navigating various levels populated by Roman soldiers, animals, and other obstacles. Asterix (or Obelix) must defeat these enemies and overcome environmental challenges, such as jumping over pits and avoiding traps, to progress through the game. Levels are themed after different regions within the Roman Empire, and include areas like Gaul, Rome, and Egypt.

The game is known for its colorful graphics, simple controls, and faithful adaptation of the Asterix comic book universe. Although not a major commercial success, it has gained a following among fans of both the comic series and classic NES platformers.
