Arif Alvi

Arif-ur-Rehman Alvi (born July 29, 1949) is a Pakistani politician who served as the 13th President of Pakistan from 2018 to 2024. A dentist by profession, Alvi was one of the founding members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the political party led by Imran Khan.

Alvi was elected as a Member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from Karachi three times: in 1997, 2013, and 2018. Prior to his election as President, he served as a member of the Standing Committees on Finance, Planning and Development, and Housing and Works in the National Assembly.

His political career also includes his role as the Secretary-General of PTI for nearly a decade. He played a key role in shaping the party's policies and strategies. As President, Alvi's responsibilities included representing the state, signing legislation into law, and acting as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. His presidency was marked by political turbulence and significant events, including periods of political instability and changes in government. He stepped down as President in March 2024 after the election of his successor.
