Anna King (singer)

Anna King (August 30, 1937 – January 21, 2002) was an American soul and rhythm and blues singer, best known for her association with James Brown in the 1960s.

Born in Smyrna, Georgia, King began her career singing in gospel groups. She transitioned to secular music and performed in nightclubs. She came to prominence as a member of The James Brown Revue, touring and recording with Brown. One of her signature performances was her duet with Brown, "Lost Someone", which featured her powerful vocals and dramatic delivery. She also recorded several solo singles on Brown's Try Me Records label, including "Baby, Baby, Baby" and "If Anybody Asks You".

After leaving the James Brown Revue, King continued to perform and record, although she did not achieve the same level of mainstream success. She experienced periods of both activity and relative obscurity in her career. Her work has been appreciated by soul music enthusiasts and historians for her raw vocal talent and passionate stage presence.

Anna King died in 2002 in Statesboro, Georgia. Her contributions to soul music are remembered, particularly her performances with James Brown, which showcased her distinct vocal style and helped to define the sound of soul music in the 1960s.
