Ann Jones (tennis)

Ann Shirley Jones, CBE (born 7 October 1938), also known as Ann Haydon-Jones, is a British former table tennis and tennis player. She is best known for winning the 1969 Wimbledon Championships, defeating Billie Jean King in the final.

Jones was a versatile racquet sport athlete, excelling in both table tennis and tennis. Before her success on the tennis court, she was a highly accomplished table tennis player, winning eight medals at the World Table Tennis Championships.

Her tennis career included three Grand Slam singles titles: the 1961 French Championships, the 1966 French Championships, and the 1969 Wimbledon Championships. She also won the French Open doubles title in 1963 with Darlene Hard and the Wimbledon mixed doubles title in 1969 with Fred Stolle.

Following her playing career, Jones became a respected tennis commentator and coach. She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1985. Her contributions to both table tennis and tennis have made her a significant figure in British sporting history.
