American University of the Caribbean (Haiti)

The American University of the Caribbean (AUC) was a branch campus of the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC School of Medicine), located in Les Cayes, Haiti. It offered pre-medical programs and basic science courses related to medicine. The AUC School of Medicine, which has its primary campus in Sint Maarten, established the Haiti campus with the goal of expanding access to medical education in the Caribbean region.

The curriculum in Haiti was designed to prepare students for entry into the AUC School of Medicine’s Doctor of Medicine (MD) program or other medical programs internationally. Courses generally covered subjects like biology, chemistry, and anatomy.

Following the 2010 Haiti earthquake, the American University of the Caribbean (Haiti) sustained significant damage and operations were severely disrupted. Subsequently, the program was discontinued, and students were offered opportunities to transfer to other institutions or continue their studies at the AUC School of Medicine's main campus in Sint Maarten.

The American University of the Caribbean (Haiti) is no longer operational. Historical information regarding its existence and program offerings remains relevant for understanding the landscape of medical education in the Caribbean region, specifically in the context of providing preliminary science education to aspiring medical professionals.
