All-Pro
In American professional sports, most notably American football, "All-Pro" designates a team or player who has been selected as one of the best at their respective positions during a given season. Selection to an All-Pro team is a highly prestigious honor, often considered a strong indicator of individual excellence and a significant accomplishment in a player's career.
The term "All-Pro" generally refers to a league-recognized All-Pro team, such as the Associated Press (AP) All-Pro team in the National Football League (NFL). The AP team is considered the most prestigious and influential. Other organizations, such as the Pro Football Writers Association (PFWA) and Sporting News, also publish their own All-Pro teams. The selection process typically involves a vote by sports journalists and media members.
Different All-Pro teams may have slightly different compositions, for instance, the number of players selected at each position or the inclusion of a "flex" position. Some teams may also distinguish between a "First-Team All-Pro" and a "Second-Team All-Pro." Generally, the "First-Team All-Pro" is considered the higher honor.
In addition to recognizing individual players, the term "All-Pro" can also be used adjectivally to describe a player who is considered to be of All-Pro caliber. For example, a sports commentator might say "He's playing at an All-Pro level."
Selection to multiple All-Pro teams throughout a career is a strong indication of sustained excellence and can be a factor in consideration for induction into a sport's hall of fame.
