Acacallis (mythology)

Acacallis, also known as Acalle, is a figure in Greek mythology. She is typically described as a daughter of Minos, the King of Crete, and Pasiphaë. Accounts of her parentage sometimes vary.

Acacallis is best known for her association with the god Apollo. According to some traditions, she bore him a son named Naxos, who later gave his name to the island of Naxos in the Cyclades. Other accounts name different fathers for Naxos, or claim that Acacallis abandoned the child.

Different versions of her story exist, sometimes involving other gods and heroes. Some myths mention that her father, Minos, exposed her to the wilderness because she had conceived a child outside of marriage, or because he disapproved of her relationship with Apollo. In some accounts, she is associated with the hero Miletus.

The name Acacallis is derived from the Greek word "akakallis," which may refer to a type of flower or plant.
