99th Battalion (Essex), CEF

The 99th Battalion (Essex), CEF was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the First World War. Authorized on December 22, 1915, it was raised in Essex County, Ontario, Canada.

The battalion recruited primarily in Essex County and the surrounding area. Mobilization headquarters were located in Windsor, Ontario. The 99th Battalion embarked for Great Britain on May 31, 1916, aboard the Empress of Britain.

Upon arrival in England, the battalion was initially stationed at Bramshott Camp. On July 13, 1916, its personnel were absorbed into the 39th Reserve Battalion. The 99th Battalion was officially disbanded on October 11, 1916.

The battalion is perpetuated by The Essex and Kent Scottish Regiment.

The commanding officer of the 99th Battalion was Lieutenant-Colonel W.N. Ponton.
