252nd Division (Israel)
The 252nd Division, also known as the Sinai Division (Hebrew: אוגדת סיני, Ugdat Sinai), is a regional division of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). It is subordinate to Southern Command and is responsible for the defense of the Sinai border with Egypt, as well as parts of the Negev desert.
The division's primary role is to prevent infiltration and terrorist attacks along the border and to respond to any security incidents that may arise. It is typically composed of a mix of regular army (standing army) infantry and armored brigades, as well as reserve units. The exact composition and size of the division can vary depending on the operational needs and security situation.
The 252nd Division played a significant role in past conflicts, including the Yom Kippur War, where it fought intense battles in the Sinai Peninsula. Since the Egypt-Israel peace treaty, its focus has shifted to maintaining border security and preventing illegal activities.
The division is headquartered near Beersheba. Specific units assigned to the division can change over time. The division is equipped with a variety of modern military equipment and vehicles to fulfill its mission.
