Yan Cong

Yan Cong (晏 Cong, dates unknown) was a Chinese painter who lived during the Five Dynasties period (907-960 AD). He served as a court painter in the Later Shu dynasty (934-965 AD), one of the Ten Kingdoms. Yan Cong specialized in flower and bird paintings, a genre that flourished during this era. While no authenticated works by Yan Cong survive today, he is known through historical records and later copies or attributions. His style is described as meticulous and detailed, capturing the delicate beauty of nature. He is considered an important figure in the development of bird-and-flower painting, influencing later generations of artists.
