William F. Smith (American football)
William F. Smith was an American football player and coach. He played college football at Washington & Jefferson College, where he was a prominent end. He later served as the head football coach at West Virginia University from 1921 to 1924. During his tenure at West Virginia, he compiled a record of 17–14–2. Smith is also credited with contributing to the development of football strategy and techniques during his era.
