WRC-TV
WRC-TV is the NBC owned-and-operated television station in Washington, D.C., licensed to the District of Columbia. It broadcasts a high-definition digital signal on VHF channel 4 (virtual channel 4.1). The station is owned by the NBC Owned Television Stations subsidiary of NBCUniversal (a subsidiary of Comcast). WRC-TV's studios and offices are located in the Tenleytown neighborhood of Northwest Washington, D.C., and its transmitter is located in the same neighborhood.
WRC-TV was the first television station in Washington, D.C., signing on the air on June 27, 1947. As the flagship station of the NBC network, it carries the full NBC programming lineup, along with locally produced news, public affairs, and sports programming. WRC-TV's newscasts have consistently ranked among the highest-rated in the Washington, D.C. market.
The station's call letters, WRC, originally stood for "Radio Corporation," referring to the Radio Corporation of America (RCA), NBC's then-parent company.
WRC-TV also operates a digital subchannel, known as "NBC Sports Washington Plus," which carries overflow sports programming from NBC Sports Washington, a regional sports network co-owned by Comcast and Monumental Sports & Entertainment.
