Unplugged (Alicia Keys album)
Unplugged is the second live album by American singer and songwriter Alicia Keys. It was released in October 2005 on J Records. The album was recorded as part of the MTV Unplugged series at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on July 14, 2005.
Unplugged features primarily acoustic arrangements of songs from Keys' previous studio albums, Songs in A Minor (2001) and The Diary of Alicia Keys (2003), as well as covers of songs by Aretha Franklin, Curtis Mayfield, and The Doors. The album also includes several new original songs.
The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 255,000 copies in its first week. It marked the highest debut for an MTV Unplugged album since Nirvana's MTV Unplugged in New York in 1994 and the first Unplugged by a female artist to debut at number one. It was eventually certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Unplugged received generally positive reviews, with critics praising Keys' vocals and the stripped-down arrangements of the songs. The album spawned one single, "Unbreakable," which reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
