USS Sturdy (MSO-494)
The USS Sturdy (MSO-494) was an Aggressive-class minesweeper of the United States Navy. Laid down on 15 March 1955 at J.M. Martinac Shipbuilding Corp. in Tacoma, Washington, she was launched on 17 December 1955, sponsored by Mrs. John M. Martinac, and commissioned on 17 January 1957.
The USS Sturdy served primarily in mine countermeasures operations, designed to detect, identify, and neutralize naval mines. Her service included deployments and exercises in various theaters of operation, contributing to the safety of naval operations and maritime trade routes. Throughout her active service, she participated in numerous fleet exercises and readiness drills.
Decommissioned on 30 September 1991, the USS Sturdy was struck from the Naval Vessel Register on 8 November 1991. She was subsequently sold for scrapping on 1 September 1994.
